LOOK BACK
DRILL

TRANSCRIPT

Fundamental Football Dad here with Repstick. You're ready to do one of the most difficult drills that we've got and you're going to absolutely crush it. This is called a look back drill.

Couple of things that are important in this is one, the person working with you to facilitate is going to call out either left or right to give you an idea of which direction the ball is coming from. You're actually going to be facing the opposite direction and you're going to turn and look over your right side or your left side in order to catch.

For the facilitators, the people working with you, remember, this is about technique. It's not about speed. So, it doesn't need to be super quick, but the player is going to get the opportunity to identify where the ball's at and then practice bringing it in, catching it with their hands.

What this is going to look like is if I'm absolutely turned around as the facilitator, the person working calls out right side, I'm going to turn, look over my right side, hands up nice and high. Again, my elbows are out. If they come down to my hip, again, hands are nice and out, allowing me to squeeze that ball. If they call out left side, I'm doing the same thing to the left side, turning around. identifying the ball, squeezing it all the way in. If it's a lower pass, I'm catching it down at my waist.

These are the four basic positions you should be using for the look back drill. High and low, either to the left or the right side. They'll call it out, and then you'll turn and identify. Now, let's see what that looks like with the player.

So, I'm going to have the player turn around facing the opposite direction, and then I'm going to call out which side I'm bringing the ball, and he's going to turn to look that direction. Left, right. I went up high. Left, down at the waist, right, down at the waist. We're going to rotate through all four of these positions over and over again. This drill is probably one of the most difficult ones that you will do.

Keep in mind again, we're not trying to be 100% perfect with it, but we're trying to practice our technique over and over again with repetitions so that we're getting 1% better every day. Keep after it..
