QUICK HANDS
DRILL

TRANSCRIPT

Fundamental football dad here with Repstick. You've done the drills that we've outlined for the Repst stick, but there's one more that can accentuate every single one of those drills to the next level, and that's learning to have quick hands, or what they often call late hands. We're going to do that by having our hands down at our hips before we start whichever drill we're doing.

So, if I'm doing the six basic positions that we started out with, I'm going to do all of those coming back to my hips. So, every time my facilitator retracts that ball back, I'm bringing my hands down to my hips and then I'm popping them up to catch. Every time coming back to my hips and that's going to help me learn to have quick or late hands as we're playing, we don't want the defense to know what we're doing. So, the longer we can keep our hands down, the better off we're going to be. and then we'll be able to snap those up quick and squeeze that past.

You can apply this to every single drill that we've already done. Now, we're going to show you what that looks like.

Quick hands you can do with every single drill that you've learned for repstick. We'll start with the six core positions. Every time his hands are coming back to his waist to reset after each catch.

So, we start with the chest. We go overhead, over shoulder, over shoulder, at the waist, at the waist. Every time hands come back, reset at his waist to create a quick hand situation. We can do this with the extension drill.

So, extending out over one shoulder, extending out over the shoulder, extending out at the waist, extending out at the waist, and then still our chest and our over the head. Every time he comes back to reset at his hips.

We can do this with profile. So if he turns to the right, we can go up at the head, down at the waist, at the shoulder, at the back hip. Again, every time resetting those hands. Profile the other direction. Up at the head, down at the waist, at the shoulder, at the back hip again every time. Resetting those hands.

We can go look back where he turns around. We're going left, right, left, right. Every time, resetting those hands. This will help develop quicker hands and allow you to wait just a fraction of a second more before you go up to catch the pass.

With all these drills, whether it's your six basic position, the profile drill, the look back drill, all of them are about technique, about getting consistent with the proper technique to be used at the right time to see the success that you want.

Nick Sabin was often quoted as saying, "Great players do simple better." That's what the rep stick is designed to do, to help you do simple better and get the repetitions in that you need for success. 10 minutes for two weeks equals touchdowns. Go get it.
