Do Simple Better

Too often in youth sports we over complicate things.  Then to our surprise the players are lost or not understanding.  A mentor once told me assume that nobody knows anything and go from there. Football is a fast moving game with physicality and aggression. It is also a game of strategy and technique.  This makes for the perfect storm of moving too fast and quickly getting off track.  So how do we fix it.   We SLOW THINGS DOWN AND DO SIMPLE BETTER.

When we take the time to slow down the coaching process, break things down into simple parts and then provide time and reps for players to master them we find success on bigger scale.  Lineman wokring on first steps off the line, a receiver working on foot work for  a release, Defensive end working on specific hand fighting,  these are all examples where we can break things down to simple movements and work reps to be doing the simple better.  Once you have the framework then you practice till you cant get it wrong.

Don’t get so caught up in schemes, plays and strategies that you miss the fundamental that it is all built on.  You have to build the foundation and the walls before you start picking out furniture.

Keep at it and “Get your reps in “
